Common Status/Error Messages and Their Meaning When Adding a Gateway to a Location in WisDM

When assigning a gateway to a Location in WisDM, the system may return specific error messages or statuses. These messages indicate why the assignment failed or requires attention.

This article explains the most common statuses and how to resolve them.

Error & Status Descriptions


Invalid

Description:
The gateway has missing or incorrect certificate information required for the assignment.

Typical Cause:

  • Device not properly provisioned
  • Missing or corrupted certificate data

Recommended Action:

  • Re-provision the gateway
  • If possible, reboot the gateway locally
  • Contact RAK WisDM Support via the built-in support form in WisDM

Shadow Error

Description:
An issue occurred while retrieving the device data from the cloud.

Typical Cause:

  • AWS is not accessible
  • Backend communication issue

Recommended Action:

  • Check gateway connectivity and power
  • Retry after a short time
  • Contact RAK WisDM Support via the built-in support form in WisDM

Unavailable

Description:
The system cannot retrieve the gateway’s data.

Typical Cause:

  • Gateway not yet connected to WisDM
  • Cloud-side delay or sync issue

Recommended Action:

  • Ensure the gateway is powered and online
  • Wait and retry the assignment
  • Contact RAK WisDM Support via the built-in support form in WisDM

Invalid EUI

Description:
The provided Gateway EUI is incorrect or malformed.

Typical Cause:

  • Typo during manual entry
  • Wrong EUI format

Recommended Action:

  • Verify the EUI from the device label
  • Ensure correct format (typically 16 hex characters)

Incompatible

Description:
The gateway is not compatible with the selected configuration or system requirements.

Typical Cause:

  • Unsupported firmware version - some new WisDM features require the gateway to be on the latest firmware
  • Adding a 8 channel gateway to a Location configured for 16 channels 
  • Adding a 9xx band gateway to the 8xx Location (or vice versa)

Recommended Action:

  • Verify device compatibility
  • Update firmware if applicable

Provisioning

Description:
The gateway is currently undergoing provisioning.

Typical Cause:

  • The device is being initialized or registered

Recommended Action:

  • Wait until provisioning completes
  • Retry assignment if needed

Unsupported

Description:
The gateway model or configuration is not supported.

Typical Cause:

  • Unsupported hardware
  • Unsupported feature set
  • Old Firmware

Recommended Action:

  • Confirm the device is supported by WisDM
  • Use a compatible gateway model
  • Update to the latest Firmware

Already in Location

Description:
The gateway is already assigned to the selected location.

Typical Cause:

  • Duplicate assignment attempt

Recommended Action:

  • No action required
  • Gateway is already correctly assigned

Duplicate

Description:
A duplicate gateway entry was detected.

Typical Cause:

  • Usually duplicated records in the CSV file when a bulk action is executed
  • Same gateway added multiple times
  • Conflict in system records

Recommended Action:

  • Remove duplicate entry
  • Ensure only one instance exists
